Mark Hamill is one of the distinguished personalities in Hollywood, not just because of his familiar role as Luke Skywalker in Star Wars, but also due to his well thought out and logical opinion. Mark’s followers respect his words, and most of the time general public connects with his thought process.

Mark has a pretty good reputation in the sci-fi fandom, but a lot of his Star Wars fans are not aware that he has voiced the best-animated version of JOKER for more than a decade. His voice is synonymous with the character of Joker in many Batman cartoon shows and video games.

After working for more than 25 years with Comic Book based animated shows, we can safely say that Mark knows a ton about superhero niche. In an interview with the USA Today, he shared his views about the current state of Superhero movies:-

“I don’t know what’s going on with superhero movies. They’re fantastic, but I think we’re reaching a point of oversaturation. So that’s why the story is so important, is that the gimmicks and all that, they can only take you so far. That’s what I want, better stories.”

Mark has voiced characters from both DC and Marvel. Hence he tried to be diplomatic here, by not calling out the names, but his message was crystal clear. He is talking about the overload of comic book movies that we are experiencing today. We are getting like 7-8 Superhero movies every year, and the sad part is that most of them are trying to become the Avengers with multiple characters, larger than life villains and heavily CGI’ed epic fight scenes. There are so many good characters in these movies that most of them struggle to find the spotlight. We are also seeing movies that are getting made only for the sake of creating a sequel, even though nobody asked for it.

On the other hand, movies that focus on personal stories of our heroes are getting much better response from the audiences and critics alike. Some good examples of such cinema are Logan, Ant-Man, Iron-Man (First Part), Wonder Woman and all the Marvel’s Netflix shows. Over exposing us to similar kind of movies will take away the charm of the Superhero franchises in coming years, and maybe Mark is trying to tell us that the Superhero bubble is about to burst.
