Roseanne was a much-loved show back in the 90s, and its end in 1997 left many fans stunned for one reason: there was no closure. For instance, the ghost of Jerry Garcia has made an appearance, the Conner’s were finally rich, and Dan Conner had apparently died from a heart attack. Over the last two decades, people had learned to live with this unsatisfying fact, until it was announced that Roseanne would be revived. And thus, all those questions came back.
The president of ABC Entertainment, Channing Dungey, tried to provide some of the answers that fans were dying to have. While talking to the Television Critics Association, it is reported that Dungey confirmed that the revival of the show would certainly address the events of the last episode of the show, while also state whether or not Dan Conner is alive. But one thing is certain: the show will indeed tackle the events of the final episode. The producers have made it clear that the show will not take the “Will and Grace” route by ignoring the series finale completely.
Another big news made was regarding talks with Johny Galecki to join back the main cast. The actor, who plays the famous Leonard on The Big Bang Theory, is apparently having few issues, and Dungey made no confirmation either.
As far as the plot is concerned, there are no hints whatsoever regarding it. The social and political climate had changed drastically since the show last aired, but it is yet not sure whether the revived show would address it. Back in 2009, Roseanne Barr, who plays the titular character, did write a blog post imagining the events that might have taken place after Dan’s death. However, Barr confirmed that the blog post was just for fun and would not contribute any plot points to the show. She also confirmed that the show is simply about a Midwestern family, and would not include the POTUS in the narrative.
Dungey confirmed that the taping of the show would begin in October in front of a live audience, and the show would air most likely mid next year. The customary trailer displayed just after the press event was simply a collage of scenes from previous seasons, with no new footage at all. There is much anticipation regarding new trailers and an official release date.
