It has been just 7 months since the Nintendo Switch has been out. In April 2017, there was a report that said that the console was having a one hell of a run in Japan.

The story was has been updated.

Kotaku had previously brought into light that Switch sales were on a high in March and this doubled during the fourth week of its release in Japan.

Via 2ch, this is how the Switch and the PS4 sales have compared during their first seven weeks. The following sales data has been taken from Media Create. The character 週 means “week,” and the characters 完売 refers to “sold out.”

In the above image, Switch sales are going steady, with every shipment selling out. But, the PS4 sales have been declining in the same time window.

According to Hachima, the website Game Sokuhou has also been tracking Switch sales and comparing the figures to that of the PS4’s.

Here are the sales for both the consoles in their first sixteen weeks in Japan. In Japanese, the list points out game releases like Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes for PS4, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for Switch and Final Fantasy XIV for the PS4.

The numbers have been taken from Media Create. Dengeki Online uses the numbers from ASCII Media Works, and in their data, there were 43,850 Switch consoles sold during the recent sales week. This means that in the Switch’s sixteenth week, it has sold over one million consoles in Japan.

Game Sokuhou also charted the PS4 and Switch sales numbers. These are represented by dots and arrows represent cumulative sales.

There is no doubt that the Switch is doing far better than the PS4. But is it doing better than the other Nintendo consoles? The Wii sold 1.85 million consoles, and Wii U sold 820,000 consoles in its first 16 weeks. Yes, the Switch is doing better than the Wii U, but it just hasn’t been able to surpass the Wii.

The sales numbers for the Switch goes up and down, and this depends on the number of consoles that are available. It is selling out every week, and this is why people are lining up in Japan when the Switch consoles arrive.

Some say that the Switch still does not have enough games. However, the games that it does have are fantastic. The latest Switch game released is Arms and is doing very well. It was released between June 12 to June 18. The Japanese sales chart showed that it sold 105,006 copies. This is according to Dengeki Online.

Second in place was Mario Kart 8 Deluxe which sold 17,611 copies (576,318 copies sold total). Following it, is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild at 8,261 copies (490,086 copies sold total).
