The Canadian actress and singer who became the first Canadian female to win the third season of Canadian Idol is none but Melissa O’Neil. She is famous for her role as Two/Rebecca/Portia Lin in the science-fiction series, Dark Matter and Officer Lucy Chen in the drama series, The Rookie.
Melissa was born on 12th July in 1988 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. She is of Irish and Chinese descent. She studied at Lester B. Pearson High School, where she performed in musicals.

In 2005 while in high school, she gave an audition for the third season of Canadian Idol, and she made it through to the top 100 rounds by impressing the judges. That year, she won the crown of the Canadian Idol by defeating Goudie and becoming the youngest winner in its history.

After winning the show, Melissa got a call from the Canadian Prime Minister, Paul Martin. She signed a contract with Sony B.M.G. Canada, and in 2005, she released her debut single, Alive.

That year, she also released her debut album, Melissa O’Neil. It ranked at the number 16 on the Canadian albums chart. She made an appearance as a singer in the production of Dirty Dancing in Toronto, Ontario.

Melissa also played the role of Gabriella in the production of High School Musical On Stage. In 2012, she made her Broadway debut with Jesus Christ Superstar, in which she played the role of Martha.

Melissa also played a role in a revival of Les Miserables in 2014. She made her film debut in 2010 with Broken Heart. The actress became famous for playing the role of Two/Portia Lin/ Rebecca in the television series, Dark Matter, from 2015-2017.

She also played the role of Jen in the series, Rogue, in 2016. She is currently playing the role of Officer Lucy Chen in the series, The Rookie since 20018. She has won the Dora Award and got a nomination for the Juno Award.
