Doig was born on June 8, 1973, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She is the youngest child of David W. Doig and Gloria B. Lecciones. Her father is a Canadian engineer, working as a petroleum executive officer in Toronto, and her mother is a registered nurse who came from Dumaguete City of the Philippines.

Lexa is of Scottish, Irish, and Filipino descent. She was a very athletic child. She studied the American Sign Language and rhythmic gymnastics. At the age of six, she directed and wrote a school play called Strawberry Shortcake. She was passionate about acting from a very young age and aspired to become an actor after watching Porgy and Bess’ theater production.

While she was in school, Lexa also took classes in a vocational modeling program at sixteen. She was immediately picked and represented by a talent agent for several modeling projects. To pursue acting as a fulltime career, she dropped out of high school.
