An official Contra mobile game debuted in China a few years back. However, Konami has further plans and is now joining a Chinese media giant to make a live-action Contra film as well as TV series.
We had heard about the film earlier this year, and now China Film Insider has revealed the preliminary synopsis of the movie:
In 1988, a huge meteorite lands on an uninhabited island in the South China Sea.
Chen Qiang and Li Zhiyong investigate but come up empty-handed. 29 years later, Chen sends commandos Bill and Lance into a combat mission there to neutralize the villainous Red Falcon Organization, but end up facing a different enemy altogether.
The narratives mentioned in the Japanese and English versions of the game used to be different and the film is incorporating elements of both versions.
Earlier this year, the above poster image, as well as the teaser trailer, had also come out:

The film and the TV series are officially happening. As reported by 4Gamer, Konami made a public announcement about joining hands with the Chinese major Starlight Media for both projects and has plans to release and stream them globally. However, a release date hasn’t been declared as of now for either the film or the TV drama.
