Jay And Silent Bob Reboot: Shooting To Start Soon

Kevin Smith is a busy man who is handling a handful of projects simultaneously. However, he seems to have finalized his next feature film. It’s neither going to be Mall Rats 2 which apparently has been converted into a TV show running for 10 hours nor will it be the killer moose story Moose Jaws which could have been the finale to the True North Trilogy. Instead, we hear that he is going back in time to recreate the magic by shooting a Jay & Silent Bob Reboot. He plans to start shooting soon.

The journey that had started in 1994 series Clerks and carried onto films like Mallrats, Chasing Amy and Dogma, culminated with Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back that released in 2001 and connected with the audience successfully. Now the official Kevin Smith Twitter handle announced that he is set to make a comeback with the film’s reboot and that shooting will commence before the end of the year.

“16 years ago, #JayAndSilentBobStrikeBack was released in theaters. And this Fall, we shoot a follow-up flick called #JayAndSilentBobReboot!”

Although it is not yet announced when the film would release,, we can guess that with shooting starting soon, the film must hit cinemas before 2018 ends. The cast hasn’t been announced yet either, but again Kevin had earlier convinced the entire Mallrats cast to return for a sequel before it was converted into a TV show. Therefore, we can assume that the regular cast and crew including Ben Affleck, Jason Lee, and Rosario Dawson are likely to return to the film. If he manages to convince Bruce Willis to join the cast, then it will be a huge breakthrough. They have worked together in Cop Out earlier, and Smith has panned Willis many times in his comedy concerts; therefore, a showdown between the two is going to be worth the cost of the ticket.

The one thing that we can say with absolute certainty is that Kevin Smith will play Silent Bob and Jason Mewes will return to play the character of his sidekick Jay. The film will be meta style sequel to Strikes Back and will see the duo stopping a Hollywood reboot of the Bluntman Vs. Chronic film which was also seen in the original road trip and it will be shown that these two are upset about the film being given a dark and nasty makeover.

Since the narrative shows Jay and Bob returning to Hollywood, there are bound to be many celebrity cameos, and we might even see Ben Affleck mocking his Batman persona. Kevin Smith has directed various episodes of The CW’s Arrowverse, and there is a possibility of stars such as Supergirl fame Melissa Benoist and Grant Gustin from The Flash doing short cameos in the upcoming film. When asked for a synopsis, this is what Kevin Smith said:

“A tongue-in-cheek, silly-ass satire that pokes fun at the movie business’s recent re-do obsession.”

Smith announced the making of Clerks 3 after Mallrats was converted to a TV series. We don’t yet know if he still intends to make that movie, but, he certainly has his vision Askewniverse up and kicking, and we will see it in this reboot film. The film promises to be entertaining and irrespective of whatever Smith dishes out, it is likely to be a joy-ride. Hopefully, Smith will succeed with this venture, and it will serve as an eye opener to some Hollywood people who will then be inspired to create more original stuff going into the future.
