IDW Publishing’s G.I. Joe comic book is ready to get a new spin-off as Scarlett’s Strike Force. The new title which will be written by Aubrey Sitterson and drawn by Nelson Daniel was announced at Hascon, the G.I. Joe toymaker’s celebration of all things Hasbro.
Speaking to Paste Magazine, Sitterson had explained that the new title will follow up on “First Strike” event where we will see the rise of a Cobra Commander and a crossover between Sitterson’s G.I. Joe team and IDW’s M.A.S.K. series.
“In the previous Joe series — by me, Giannis Milonogiannis and Lovern Kindzierski — Scarlett was the leader of a team that included not only Joes, but the Decepticon Skywarp, and in the new series, they’ll be joined by Matt Trakker of M.A.S.K. as well as another face that might be familiar to long-time fans,” Sitterson said.
“So, coming out of the ‘First Strike’ event, we thought it made sense for the name of the book to speak to the nature of the team. Don’t worry though — the reception to our unique take on G.I. Joe has been amazing, so there are no plans to stop giving you the bombastic, sci-fi-action-packed character drama that you deserve.”
Sitterson promised new characters, including The Intruder (Action Man), Cobra Commander and “an army of new, serpentine Vipers.”
Scarlett’s Strike Force is due to hit comic shops in December.
