Official news is out. Ridley Scott, after initially distancing the Alien franchise from the Prometheus film, has now embraced his prequel and has given it a sequel entitled Alien: Covenant. This may just fill all gaps leading to the original Alien franchise. As of now there are limited details but all information will be updated right here as soon as any further news about plot, cast, rumors and potential spoilers is heard.
At the worldwide box office Prometheus earned a grand sum of $400 million in 2012 despite receiving mixed reception from critics. Which has now finally geared up for a sequel.
1. Ridley Scott’s involvement confirmed
Ridley Scott, who jump-started the Alien franchise in 1979, is now confirmed to be directing Alien: Covenant following his success with The Martian in 2015. Prometheus is labeled as Scott’s first science fiction film since Blade Runner in 1983. Now it seems this talented director cannot get enough of this genre.
Scott told Empire magazine that he thought he had been away from science fiction for too long and now he wants to be back into the game. He states that Prometheus was a great experience for him and working towards the sequel gives chances for the grand idea to evolve further.
2. Cast of Alien: Covenant is all set. Whole new crew with Fassbender and probably Rapace
By the end of Prometheus most of the cast had met untimely demises like Charlize Theron meeting the humongous circular space structure. But two brilliant cast members made it out by the end; Noomi Rapace’s archaeologist character Elizabeth Shaw and Michael Fassbender’s android character David.
The film’s initial plot synopsis suggested that the crew of the colony ship Covenant, traveling to the far dark side of the galaxy, discovers what initially seems like an uncharted haven is actually a dangerous world which is solely inhabited by the “synthetic” David, sole survivor of the damned Prometheus expedition. Despite this Elizabeth Shaw is a probable character we could hope to see in the film. Even though Ridley Scott has seemingly confirmed that Noomi Rapace would not be in the sequel, she has been spotted on the set in Australia and since then has been put up in the IMDb listing.
Katherine Waterston from the film Steve Jobs is reportedly been cast as the leading lady in Alien: Covenant. Though much has not been revealed about her character but the character has been named as Daniels and she probably will a member of the Covenant crew. The first teased picture on twitter is a light deprived photograph of her character in a single inside what seems to be a wrecked ship. It would not be surprising to see another tough female protagonist in Sir Ridley’s conception.
Billy Crudup gave audiences a few hints about working with Ridley Scott. So, with Waterston, Crudup along with Danny McBride and Demiàn Bichir would be the new cast members of the film.
