A sequel to the 80’s classic, Top Gun, has been officially confirmed now. The cast and release dates are still in the talks but the title and content have been revealed by Tom Cruise himself. The title will be Top Guns: Maverick, just to avoid the usual number 2.

As per the reports by Access Hollywood, Tom Cruise and the producer Jerry Bruckheimer is all set to bring back the top grossing movie of 1986. Jerry was the producer for the first Top Gun movie as well. When asked about the title of the movie, Cruise said, “I didn’t want a number, you know what I mean?” Yes, we know what you mean and apparently, that name sounds cool as well.

There is a buzz about the casting of the movie as well with the biggest hype being about the starring of Val Kilmer as Ice Man. When asked about the possible costars, all what Cruise replied was, “There’s gonna be Jets.” When asked again about the possible usage of drones in the movie, Cruise repeated the same line, “There’s gonna be Jets.”

He further added, “Aviators are back, the need for speed. We’re going to have big, fast machines. It’s going to be a competition film, like the first one … but a progression for Maverick.”

If the rumors are to be believed, Top Guns 2 is targeting Tron 2’s director Joseph Kosinski. No official news has been out yet but the director who worked with Tom Cruise in Oblivion is said to be the maker’s top choice for Top Guns 2. The original director of Top Gun, Tony Scott, died of suicide back in 2012. One thing that was confirmed by Tom Cruise was the comeback of Harold Faltermeyer who will be composing the score for the movie.

The making of the film is expected to start somewhere in between 2018 after Tom Cruise finishes off his pending Mission Impossible: 6. The fans are expecting the sequel to be as good as its blockbuster predecessor, and we are sure that Tom Cruise won’t leave any stone unturned to assure that.
