Well, this is not a big surprise. Hasbro has revealed that it will not be going ahead with the new G.I. Joe sequel. It is going to take the series back for a reboot.
Hasbro is moving heavily into films and is developing its very own movie universe. It is funding My Little Pony: The Movie, which arrives in autumn.
With G.I. Joe, there are two films by far that have made money, but won the hearts of some people.
According to Hasbro, the global brand licensing boss Simon Waters, “the world has changed, and I think you’re going to see G.I. Joe changing with it. There’s going to be a much more contemporary approach to the whole franchise, and that will allow us to develop different characters.”
Steve Davis, chief content officer added that “we hope to create a head snap. It’s a different kind of Joe – one that still resonates with ‘Joe’ fans but brings in an uninitiated audience and expands the audience internationally and domestically.”
Well, we just have to wait and see what happens next.
