When the Green Ranger actor, Jason David Frank is done with Tommy Oliver, he wishes that the character will go out in style of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in Logan. Though dark tone contrasts which fans are accustomed to, this actor firmly believes that a solo Green Ranger project is what that may happen.
Frank has been with Power Rangers brand after he appeared in Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers series. He then became White Ranger in the series, changed to red for Power Rangers Zeo and Turbo. Frank then left the series in Turbo and came back seven years later as a regular in Dino Thunder. Tommy had become a paleontology professor operating as the new Black Ranger. Frank’s last appearance was in Super Megaforce in 2014. As a popular Power Ranger in the franchise, Frank has a passion for this character and makes appearances at conventions.
In an interview with Syfy Wire, Frank had discussed the role of Tommy Oliver and how he wants this character’s story to end. He wants Tommy to have a sendoff like Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in Logan. Logan, which is considerably darker than anything Saban has ever done with Power Rangers, provided a deep, emotional story that ended with Wolverine’s brutal death.
This sendoff faces a challenge of being made in a drastically different tone, and there is a problem of where it may fit in the franchise. Frank says that there have been discussions on a solo project for the Ranger and that he “still feels strongly that the Green Ranger can hold down his series.”
“I have talked to Saban, we’ve talked numerous years about doing a solo Green Ranger project. I’m not giving up on it, and it’s not a firm no.”
Whether the actor will get a Logan-like ending, we do not know, but Frank remains confident that the ending for his character will come at some point.
