Tom Holland Wants Tobey Maguire To Be Uncle Ben In Spider-Man: Homecoming Sequel!

Tom Holland is precise about his preference about the actor who would play Uncle Ben in a future Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel. He made a brief, but, highly impressive debut last year in Captain America: Civil War. However, the moviegoers and fans of the character were treated to a full-on, Tom Holland take on Peter Parker/Spider-Man when he appeared in this year’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. The film was based on a few months after the events of Captain America: Civil War and it followed Peter’s journey as he made efforts to prove his worthiness as an Avenger to his mentor Tony Stark/Iron Man alongside struggling to find feet in his daily life of a high school student.

The focus of Holland’s portrayal was on the formative years of Peter Parker as Spider-Man and that not only set him apart from the earlier live-action versions starring Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield but, it made him a fan-favorite who received praise from critics and fans alike. However, Holland has figured out a way to connect his version from the early 2000s Sam Raimi directed Spider-Man movies.

While talking to BBC Radio 1 recently, Holland spoke about his preference about the actor who would play the MCU version of Uncle Ben. He said that he would want the former Spider-Man star, Tobey Maguire, to take up the role:

“I kinda want Tobey Maguire to play Uncle Ben, I think that’d be super funny, but I don’t think he’ll do it.”

The choice of Maguire is logical, but, very interesting because the audiences haven’t seen Uncle Ben in Marvel Cinematic Universe. We assume that he had died before Holland’s debut in Civil War, however, Uncle Ben is simply glossed over as he doesn’t get any reference in Spider-Man: Homecoming barring one dialogue exchanged between Peter and Ned Leeds (Jacob Batalon) during the film.

We have already seen that Marisa Tomei’s portrayal as Aunt May is a very young version of the character till date, therefore, age-wise Maguire would fit the role of Uncle Ben. Therefore, it is down to Maguire’s willingness to play Uncle Ben or not. Fans would find it entertaining to see Maguire hand over thebaton to Holland in a literal manner, however, it is unlikely that Maguire would be keen to play a smaller role after having been the Spider-Man. We have no way of knowing, but, at the moment, this speculation is more of a fun imagination rather than anything with a realistic shot.
