Avengers: Infinity War’s trailer released this week, and it has ruled the internet. The epic trailer is breathtaking and extremely action-packed. By the looks of it, the film has all the potential of becoming all time greatest hit ever. The response that the trailer has received in the initial 24 hours of its release is absolutely mind-boggling.

While the Infinity War has a cast full of heavy-weight characters, but, the most prominent comic book character happens to be the Mad Titan Thanos. Till now, we only saw him in post-credits scenes of films from Phase 2 and 3 and Infinity War is going to be the first film where he is going to be the lead villain in pursuit of his evil objectives.

The trailer showed actor Josh Brolin portraying Thanos, and his appearance as the mightiest cosmic villain is extremely frightening. We came to see the incredible powers of Infinity Stones, each one of which has great powers, but, when they are united, they can redo the reality and ruin the whole universe.

Josh Brolin had said in an earlier interview that Thanos might not be able to get hold of all the Infinity Stones in the Avengers: Infinity War. This led to the speculation whether the Thanos’ mission of collecting the Infinity Stones will be shown in two films. To answer this apprehension, this is what Brolin said:

“I haven’t done the second movie, so I don’t know. I literally don’t know what the second script is. I don’t know if they’ve finished the second script, and that’s the truth. I think they’re in the midst of structuring and restructuring.”

He also said that Thanos wouldn’t hesitate from using psychological tactics as much as he would use raw force.

However, this doubt was blown away when Anthony Russo, the film’s co-director said it would be a heist film where Thanos will spend his time planning to steal all the Infinity Gems.

However, in Avengers 4, he will unleash a full-scale war on the world which will compel Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy to unite in their bid to prevent this global destruction. During a CNET interview, the Russo Brothers discussed about how they were influenced by heist films for Avengers: Infinity War. This is what they said:

“With “Infinity War,” the biggest new element to the movie is Thanos and the fact that he’s entering the storytelling in a very bold, strong way, to the degree that he’s almost one of the leads. We’ve shaped an interesting narrative around him that in some ways leans heavily on a heist film in the fact that he’s going after the infinity stones in a much bolder, successful way than he has in the past. The entire movie has that energy of the bad guy being one step ahead of the heroes. We looked at a lot of movies that had that heist-style energy to them, and that brought some inspiration”.

Six Infinity Stones exist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe which are needed by Thanos to build an Infinity Gauntlet which will help him control every aspect of the cosmic existence. We have so far seen five of these stones, but, Soul Stone is yet undisclosed. This is what the Collector said about it:

“Before creation itself, there were six singularities. Then the universe exploded into existence, and the remnants of these systems were forged into concentrated ingots… Infinity Stones.”―The Collector

Then which one is the Infinity Stone that he has managed to get hold of in the trailer?

The blue stone is the Space Stone which we had seen during the Chitauri invasion at the time of Battle of New York. It happens to be the first Infinity Stone, and it allows you to be present at multiple places and teleport to any part of the universe. It can help in opening portals suitable for interstellar teleportation. The stone has an orange color in comics, but, it is shown to be blue in the MCU. Nick Fury, the S.H.I.E.L.D. director, had said in The Avengers:

“Howard Stark fished that out of the ocean when he was looking for you. He thought what we think; the Tesseract could be the key to unlimited sustainable energy. That’s something the world sorely needs.”

Thor: Ragnarok’s post-credit scene is likely to be the opening sequence of Avengers: Infinity War. We wonder why Thanos suddenly became interested in Thor’s ship? Towards Thor: Ragnarok’s end, we saw Loki go to the treasure room to get Surtur’s head, he glanced at Tesseract, and he picked it up because he is by nature God of Mischief. Thor’s ship is most likely going to be blown up by Thanos and Loki will easily give the Infinity Stone to the villain.

Another purple color stone is the Power Stone or the Orb which was seen in the Guardians of the Galaxy. Ronan was tasked to steal it, but, the shrewd drama by Peter Quill ruined his plans, and  it was entrusted to the protection of Nova Corps. Thanos might have destroyed the Nova Corps to capture the ‘Orb’ which bestows its holder God-like powers. This stone is shown to be red in comics.

With two stones down and four to go, we saw in the trailer that Corvus Glaive (the leader of Thanos’ Black OrderI) tearing the Mind Stone out of Vision’s forehead. The Reality Stone or Aether was already with the Collector when the Asgardians handed it to him after Thor: The Dark World. However, the leaked footage showed that Thanos attacked the Collector’s base and most likely managed to capture that stone. The “Time Stone” is in the library of Kamar-Taj and the last one “Soul Stone” is somewhere in Wakanda.

Avengers Infinity War will hit theaters on May 4, 2018.
