Let’s say that Star Wars fans are not only the most passionate fans in the world but also the most creative ones who go to extremes to show their devotion to the galaxy far, far away. A recent and impressive display of this passion is from Nick Meyer who had built a two-story replica of an AT-AT on his front lawn.
This walker was found in Parma, OH, a suburb outside Cleveland. According to Cleveland.com, Meyer had constructed the replica with hard foam, wood and plastic barrels.
The project started back in April when Meyer had started collecting pieces that he knew could become the walker. After crafting these pieces, he enlisted a group of friends to help him construct this in front of his house.
“It was a weekend project,” he shared. “We would tinker with it on the weekends.”
Constructing the vehicle on your front lawn is a bold statement, but Meyer says he is not a fanatic of this saga and claims that he enjoyed the visual created by the walker.
“I just thought it would be neat to build a walker,” he pointed out. “It’s something unique.”
This is not the first time Meyer and his wife used their lawn to create large-scale scenes and used Halloween as an excuse to decorate their lawn.
“We had a pirate ship coming off the front porch,” Meyer confessed. “One year we built a mausoleum.”
Star Wars is not the only property that Meyer has paid tribute to. He has even recreated a cabin from Friday the 13th with the front of his house.
“That wrapped around the whole porch and the front lawn,” Meyer shared of that project’s scale.
Nick’s wife Becky shared that this installation has made them popular around town.
“People will drive by, stop, and then back up so they can get a shot of it,” Becky revealed.
The walker had debuted in The Empire Strikes Back and makes appearances in Return of the Jedi and Rogue One. Given the destruction of the Empire, we cannot expect to see the walker in sequels, but The Last Jedi features an AT-M6, which drew inspiration from the AT-AT.
The Last Jedi hits theatres December 15.
