Need to move faster and here we mean, move faster to the box office.
Sonic the Hedgehog is moving in the direction of a gaming comeback with the retro Sonic Mania already available and Sonic Forces coming up next month. Therefore, a movie of his own is anything, but, surprising.
As revealed by Variety, Paramount Pictures have bagged the film rights to this popular video game franchise from Sega and Neal H. Moritz of Original Film (currently associated with a first look deal with Paramount) is coming on board as producer.
Earlier Sony wanted to make the film, but, later they gave up the idea, and the rights became available.
Besides Moritz, many other people who were earlier associated with the Sony project will remain in place, and those include Tim Miller (the Deadpool director) who will be the executive producer and Jeff Fowler, who will direct the film. Toby Ascher, Dmitri Johnson, and Dan Jevons are also going to be on board as executive producers.
The Sonic movie is likely to be a mix of live-action and CGI, something that we have seen on a number of occasions, most noticeably in the Oscar-winning Avatar. Let’s see how this blue hero’s film shapes up!
No information has so far been given about the timeline of this Sonic the Hedgehog movie, but, it has a lot of franchises such as original Sonic, Sonic Boom, and Sonic Forces and any of them can serve as the base of the film. However, they are likely to take the conventional route featuring the Hedgehog battling his nemesis Dr.Robotnik aided by his sidekicks, Tails and Knuckles and others. There is no final story yet. Therefore, we need to wait and watch.
Sonic the Hedgehog was earlier briefly seen in the movie Wreck-It-Ralph where we saw the character promoting safety in the game hall. Earlier there were rumors about him getting a major role in the sequel of Wreck-It-Ralph which releases next year. However, that’s not yet been officially announced.
There is no release date scheduled for The Sonic film. However, we expect to hear about it soon. As of now, Sonic Mania is available, and Sonic Forces will come to you on November 7th and is compatible with Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC.
