The anime fans are mourning the loss of a famous Japanese voice actor. Ryuji Saikachi passed on September 29 from congestive heart failure. He was 89-years-old.
The actor lent his voice to many projects. He is best-known for Grand Kai in Dragon Ball Z and the movie Dragon Ball Z Movie 12: Fukkatsu no Fusion!! Gokuu to Vegeta.
Saikachi starred in a few other projects apart from Dragon Ball Z. He starred in Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Lupin III: Part II, Monster, Ranma 1/2, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and Yu YuHakusho. He had roles in Anne of Green Gables and Castle in the Sky.
Outside of anime, Saikachi dubbed work for Disney films and lent his voice to Kingdom Hearts franchise. He dubbed Rafiki’s voice in The Lion King for Japan audiences and reprised the role for Kingdom Hearts II.
Dragon Ball Super airs on Crunchyroll Saturdays at 7:15 p.m. CST. Toonami also airs the English dub on Adult Swim Saturdays at 11:30 p.m.
