We had reported yesterday that Chris Miller and Phil Lord would not be continuing as Directors for the upcoming Han Solo movie, and today Lucasfilm officially announced that the Academy Award Winning Director Ron Howard is going to helm the film.
There were some creative differences between former directors and Kathleen Kennedy’s vision for the film. The movie attracted a lot of negative press because of this news, and that’s the reason Kathlene Kennedy passed on this statement:-
“At Lucasfilm, we believe the highest goal of each film is to delight, carrying forward the spirit of the saga that George Lucas began forty years ago. With that in mind, we’re thrilled to announce that Ron Howard will step in to direct the untitled Han Solo film. We have a wonderful script, an incredible cast and crew, and the absolute commitment to make a great movie. Filming will resume the 10th of July.”
It looks like the production team is in no mood to waste any more time, and they are on full throttle to meet the May 18th, 2018 release date. Howard is a veteran director, and we have no doubts about his capabilities, but the time-frame he received to make this movie work is way too short.
It would be better if Disney pushes the release date back towards the end of the year, but that will also be a problem because Disney has other movies from their own production houses that are ideally suited for the holiday season.
Apart from Kathleen’s statement, no other information is made public. If you are looking forward to this film, keep your fingers crossed, because these are not good signs.
