We have come across minor details that were leaked about the story of The Predator reboot. However, the real details are yet to come. Several fans stick to the belief that the film will be set in suburbia. That might be true to some extent, but, this is not a story of Predators prowling around a cul-de-sac. The actor Thomas Jane spoke about the core concept of the new sci-fi thriller. This is such a crazy plot that it could become one of the best films of the next year.
Slated to release in summer 2018, The Predator is being called as a big budget start to a franchise for 20th Century Fox. Shane Black, the co-star of the original film, is directing this one. It is likely that he has incorporated some unique elements into this saga of hunters from Outer Space who are out to indulge in trophy hunting of humans.
Thomas Jane is well versed with such films and has been a part of hits such as The Punisher and The Mist, and he is the main lead here. He appeared recently on a Shadow Nation podcast. He gave one major hint about the film’s storyline. It follows a bunch of stunned soldiers who are being taken to a hospital. They have no clue that one of them is a target of US military as he had been a witness to the landing of Predator ships on our planet. Jane said this about the story:
“They’re going to take that bus, drive it down to a ditch and shoot us all just to get rid of this one guy. But, of course, we take the bus over. We’re all like, ‘Let’s go kill these f***ing Predators ourselves!’ And we’re just crazy enough to believe that this guy really did see a UFO and there’s these aliens out there. So that’s kinda cool!”
Apparently, The Predator is a good mash-up of A-Team. Injured soldiers being abandoned get up and battle threatening alien hunters in the suburban town where a young lad with autism lives. Thomas Jane praised director Shane Black, who had earlier directed the critically acclaimed movie The Nice Guys, which failed to earn much at the box-office. That film has developed a cult following too. Jane had this to say about the director.
“I can just say I had a blast. We had a great cast, with this terrific ensemble with all these great actors. And Shane Black wrote and directed it, so it has that kind of Shane Black humor. We had a blast. It was funny.”
Thomas Jane is certain that the loyal fans of the franchise will relish this film. That’s because the Predators are given a lot of respect. He said.
“You know the Predators; you know they didn’t f*** those up. They’re still Predators, and they’re pretty much the same Predator as always. I think it might be great. I tell you the acting is going to be pretty good. I’m going to be good in it!”
Fox earlier wanted to highlight The Predator as a spring 2018 release, expecting the R rated sequel to generate box office interest similar to Deadpool. However, since they had a mega summer outing scheduled, they pushed it back to August 3, a date which has seen a lot of films do well including Guardians of the Galaxy and Suicide Squad. Even this year’s release Hitman’s Bodyguard did fine in the same frame, although it wasn’t as big a hit as expected.
