Kill Bill and Hateful Eight director, Quentin Tarantino seems to be more interested in a Star Trek film than directing Star Wars.
In an episode of Nerdist podcast, Tarantino was asked what type of story he would like to tell if he directed a Star Wars film, and he responded: “The actual answer to the question is that I would be more inclined to direct a Star Trek… rather than Star Wars.”
When he was asked what type of Star Trek story he would like to helm, Tarantino said, “I’m definitely a fan of the original series… in particular a fan of William Shatner’s. That’s my key into the series—William Shatner.”
The director praised The Next Generation and said that time-travel story in Yesterday’s Enterprise will make a great cue for a movie.
Tarantino also said that he had liked J.J. Abrams 2009 Star Trek film but not the sequel, Into Darkness because of Benedict Cumberbatch’s casting as Khan: “It really bothered me that [he] was playing Khan,” he said. “The thing that I liked about the first one is that Chris Pine is playing William Shatner and Zachary Quinto is playing Leonard Nimoy as Spock… so, Benedict Cumberbum can’t be Khan.”
When TMZ asked Tarantino if he would take the job if he was asked to direct a Star Trek film, Tarantino said, “It would be worth having a meeting about.”
