Peeples was born on December 10, 1961, in Hollywood, California. Her birth name is Virenia Gwendolyn Peeples. Peeples is the daughter of Elizabeth Joan Rubic, a flamenco dancer, and Robert Eugene Peeples. Nia was raised in West Covina.
