Tessmacher was born on December 4, 1984, in St. Louis, Missouri. Later, she moved to Houston, Texas, at the age of seven. Her birth name is Brooke Nichole Adams. In 2006, she was assigned to Deep South Wrestling (DSW) as a valet for Daniel Rodimer. Tessmacher became a professional wrestler after she participated in the 2006 WWE Diva Search. However, she failed to make the top 8.

Tessmacher gained recognition because of her participation and was hired by the developmental territory Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW). In 2007, Tessmacher was transferred to the developmental facility for more training during the Florida Championship Wrestling competition.

Later in March 2009, she became a part of Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA). She changed her ring name from Brooke Adams to Brooke Tessmacher.
