She is one of the most unique artists out there because of her constant reinvention and musical versatility. Her first album was trip-hop inspired, Whoa, Nelly! Which was released in 2000.
It was a huge success ang gave her two chart topping singles on Billboard Hot 100, “I’m Like a Bird” and “Turn Off the Light”. The former won her a Grammy Award. She then released her sophomore album which explored her Portugese roots and was folk inspired. It was aptly titled Folklore. It was a moderate success with many people beginning to doubt Nelly’s capabilities.

Nelly came back stronger and released her third album Loose (2006), to a lot of commercial success. It was at this point that she nervously began to reinvent herself and began to explore her latin roots. Her musical style began leaning heavily towards Hip Hop. The album gave her four no. 1 singles- “Promiscuous”, “Maneater”, “Say It Right”, and “All Good Things (Come to an End)”. She followed it up with two chart topping collaborations- “Give It to Me” (2007) with Timbaland and Broken Strings with James Morrison.

Her first Spanish Language album, Mi Plan, released in 2009 and won her a Latin Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Album. Her fifth album was titled The Spirit Indestructible, which was released in 2012. After this album she split from her management and independently produced her indie-pop sixth album, The Ride in 2017 under her own label Nelstar Entertainment.

Furtado has won several accolades throughout her career- one Grammy Award from seven nominations, one Latin Grammy Award, ten Juno Awards, one BRIT Award, one Billboard Music Award, one MTV Europe Music Award, one World Music Award, and three Much Music Video Awards. Furtado for her achievements was gifted a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame. Furtado was married to sound engineer Demacio Castellon till 2017.
