The second season of the much-appreciated crime drama series Mindhunterwas announced today by Netflix via Instagram. The show stars Jonathan Groff (Looking), Holt McCallany (Sully), Anna Torv(Fringe), Hannah Gross (Unless) and debutant Cameron Britton who is playing the role of serial killer Ed Kemper on the show and has been winning a lot of acclaim for his work. The series has great reviews and is certified Fresh with a 96% Rotten Tomatoes score. The series has been highly appreciated by the critics for the way it has reinvented the crime procedures after it came out in October and this renewal by Netflix is the official confirmation of a fresh season.
How can we beat crazy if we are not able to think like crazy? The series shows two FBI agents (Jonathan Groff and Holt McCallany) embark on a dark investigative adventure to find some nasty answers. The series is created by Joe Penhall (The Road). David Fincher (Gone Girl, The Social Network, Zodiac), Joshua Donen (Gone Girl, The Quick And The Dead) Charlize Theron (Girlboss, Hatfields&McCoys) and Cean Chaffin (Gone Girl, Fight Club) are the show’s executive producers. David Fincher (Gone Girl, Zodiac) directed the debut season which also had Asif Kapadia (Amy, Senna), Tobias Lindholm (A War, A Hijacking) and Andrew Douglas (The Amityville Horror, U Want Me 2 Kill Him?).
The series had to chart a very long and fascinating course to the TV screen before it became a Netflix original series. Back in 2010, David Fincher joined hands with Charlize Theron to executive produce the show for HBO and Fox 21. They selected Scott Buck (Iron Fist) to write the story. However, the project stagnated in the development hell for over five years before finally coming to Netflix. The new script was written by Joe Penhall, and it is based on the book Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit, written by John Douglas and Mark Olshaker. Although it spent a lot of time to reach the TV screen, we feel that the wait has been worth it for the makers and the viewers alike.
This series has a supporting cast including Cotter Smith, Tyler James Larkin, and Alex Morf. Although, no details were given by Netflix about the upcoming season such as when it will debut, the number of episodes it will feature, and we also don’t know who will direct this season. While David Fincher directed four of the ten first season episodes, the others were handled by Asif Kapadia, Tobias Lindholm and Andrew Douglas (2 episodes each).
Therefore, we won’t be surprised to see less workload for David Fincher in the upcoming second season. He is also going to direct the cinematic sequel World War Z 2, although, it is known when that film will start shooting.
For any other details about Mindhunter Season 2 story, those are being guarded as of now and also the premiere date. Though the appearance of the serial killer was suggested during the first season, if the show came back next year, it will be one of the several breakout hits from Netflix in 2017 that have got a second season and the list includes Netflix’s GLOW, Ozark, Dear White People, Mystery Science Theater 3000, The OA, Iron Fist, etc. which will all return in 2018.
