Today we came to know from Variety that Michelle Williams, 2016’s highly successful festival release Manchester by the Sea is now under discussion for a part in Sony’s Venom spinoff.
If the deal is finalized the she would be starring opposite Tom Hardy and Riz Ahmed, who is associated with the project to play a “major Marvel character” (might be Carnage) in the 2018 action movie. The film will be directed by Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) and although, there is no official word from Sony, it is speculated that Michelle Williams is being considered for the role of Anne Weying, who is Eddie Brock’s (Tom Hardy) ex-wife.
She was rendered paralyzed by the extremely powerful Sin Eater in the comic books and later she became She-Venom after managing to control the Venomsymbiote. In case this news is authentic, then it would be in line with the earlier rumors about Fleischer’s solo pic featuring a merger of two symbiote hosts. As of now it is merely a speculation since Sony is not revealing anything about Venom and its newly announced Marvel universe.
The only other information that has come so far is related to Silver and Black, which is Sony’s Spider-Man spinoff film being directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood.
Talking of Venom, it seems like the film’s production really got delayed due to the Powers that make the decisions about the cast of the movie. Don’t misunderstand anything, Michelle Williams is going to be a major accomplishment for the studio as this actress is known for her tendency of gathering potential award winning movies such as the Todd Haynes drama Wonderstruck and The Greatest Showman, both of which are set to release before the year is over.
The script of this Eddie Brock solo film is from Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner who had recently worked on the high volume Dwayne Johnson starrer Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.
Venom will make its way into theaters on October 5th, 2018.
