Back in September, it was revealed that the DC Comics’ Legion of Superheroes, who had earlier made a fleeting appearance in Season 1, would ultimately debut on The CW’s Supergirl. It was also announced that Amy Jackson had been cast to play Saturn Girl. Now, the Supergirl is returning soon, and the latest promo gives us the first look at the heroes from 31st-century coming to our screens.
The promo includes a shot depicting three hands, each sporting the unmistakeable Legion Flight Rings, seen together as a display of unity. The characters’ faces are not visible, but, they might be Mon-El (Chris Wood), Saturn Girl mentioned above and Brainiac-5 (Jesse Rath), who is all set to debut in the perfectly titled midseason premiere episode “Legion of Super-Heroes.”
The Supergirl Season 1 had indicated about The Legion of Super-Heroes existing in her world when we saw a Legion Flight Ring in Superman’s Fortress of Solitude. The random hints continued even after the finale of Season 2 when Supergirl Melissa Benoist said during an interview that the Legion Ring would be back at some point. Further, Mon-El, who is often seen in DC Comics alongside the Legion of Super-Heroes, was featured prominently in Season 2 and has now come back after having gone missing in the finale.
The comics show the Supergirlgo to the 31st century where she met and joined the Legion of Super-Heroes. It was also the place where she met her true love in the Legion member Brainiac-5, who is a descendant of the Superman enemy. The former co-showrunner Andrew Kreisberg had said that their romance is expected to be depicted in the TV series too.
Supergirl will be back on Monday, Jan. 15 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW. The series features Melissa Benoist as Supergirl, David Harewood as Martian Manhunter, Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen, Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers and Jeremy Jordan as Winn Schott. There are also occasional appearances by Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant and Tyler Hoechlin as Superman.
