She doubled down on this success by appearing in two 1969 western films: Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and Tell Them Willie Boy Is Here, for both of which she won the BAFTA Award for Best Actress. After going into retirement in the 1990s she returned to film with a supporting part in Richard Kelly’s cult film Donnie Darko (2001) and in 2017 starred opposite her husband Sam Elliott in the comedy The Hero. She has one daughter with Sam Elliott and has been married four times.
