During its chaotic production days, Justice League had to go through a significant number of changes and reshoots, which left the fans demanding Zack Snyder’s version of the movie with all the removed scenes which were seen in the trailer.
After seeing the black Superman costume that Henry Cavill had revealed on Instagram back in August, fans were apparently disappointed not to see the costume in the movie. However, as per an unnamed visual effects artist working on DC projects, the black suit was not meant to be in the film in any case.
A Reddit user LDN Film shared this information during an Ask Me Anything thread on the website at the start of the post.
“There was (sadly) never a black Superman suit,” he stated.
Those rumors about the suit had started doing rounds after Cavill shared a close up of an apparently black colored Man of Steel costume and he added the hashtag #Superman.
Cavill then gave more fuel to the rumor mills by stating during a WSVN interview in Miami, “that’s exactly how it appears. I mean, it appears to be a black suit, right.”
A black suit won’t entirely be out of the possible options for the DC Films productions.
We had already seen one of this costume’s adaptations in the Man of Steel movie when Superman was standing atop a mound of human skulls. Afterwards, we have seen the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and also Justice League depict some elements from the “Death and Return of Superman” stories, and the black suit would have been a great homage to the comics that inspired it.
The comic showed Clark Kent come back from the dead to battle the evil Cyborg Superman fluke, wearing a black capeless suit having a silver ‘S’ on the chest.
The revelation about the costume never being in the reckoning for the film might disappoint several fans who are of the opinion that Joss Whedon removed it from the final movie. Therefore, whether DC releases a Director’s cut or not, you are unlikely to see the black Superman costume play a part in the movie.
Justice League is currently playing in theaters.
