This week brought news that DC is adding another movie onto its slate and Joe Manganiello will be starring as Slade Wilson in a Deathstroke solo movie. This is encouraging to hear for fans of the famous supervillain, as the character’s future in DCEU was in doubt for the few months. It has better news for Manganiello and it seems like the actor cannot wait to don the orange/black helmet in his movie.
In the wake of the solo movie’s announcement, had taken to Twitter and shared a cryptic tease.
Manganiello was cast in the role last year with a promise that he will be the antagonist of Ben Affleck’s The Batman. Once Big Ben had given up the director’s chair for Matt Reeves, Deathstroke’s importance in the project was thought to have been reduced. His rumoured cameo in Justice League has been removed due to Joss Whedon’s reshoots. So, it is nice that we have positive news on Deathstroke.
Manganiello’s post is not the only hint that fans have got about this movie. Gareth Evans had shared something on Instagram before the news of his involvement went public. He had revealed that he was reading Deathstroke: Gods of War, a 2015 comic book storyline.
Gods of War features Deathstroke facing off against a foe, Odysseus, who knows things about a top-secret mission from Slade’s past that he does not know about. To combat this villain, Deathstroke has to go on a quest and recover his broken mind. A movie version may be like a superhero take on Christopher Nolan’s Memento, and there would be roles for Batman and Harley Quinn.
