Recent actions of the Director David Ayer on the social media have once again fuelled the talk about Eiza Gonzalez (Baby Driver) being the Catwoman in Gotham City Sirens. Warner Bros. has been evaluating various avenues to keep the Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) in the front and middle seat of their ongoing DCEU. The earliest that she can be back to reprise the role is in Suicide Squad 2. However, that’s only one of the many Harley Quinn movies under development. There was earlier talk about Birds of Prey and a new Harley Quinn vs. The Joker film is being brain-stormed, it is the Gotham City Sirens that apparently has covered quite a distance on the planning table.
The director David Ayer (Suicide Squad) is once again teaming up with Margot Robbie for this prospective solo that will also introduce Poison Ivy and Catwoman into the DCEU. Gotham City Sirens is presently at the development stage and has stayed on despite various other projects being launched and this is the one Harley Quinn film that has been constantly generating buzz. This latest rumor is a fresh revival of something that’s been doing rounds since this summer.
Someone pointed out on Reddit about David Ayer following Eiza Gonzalez on Twitter recently and this made people wonder if she will or maybe already has been confirmed to play Catwoman in Gotham City Sirens. This is something that you should believe at your own risk because it could just be a coincidence or maybe Ayer followed her because he liked her work in Baby Driver. However, this development and (her current hairstyle which is similar to Catwoman) has given plenty of scope for the rumors. She was also rumored to have visited the Warner Bros. and earlier showed photos of her new uniform which was almost similar to what Catwoman wears. All these things put together make quite a strong theory.
Gonzalez might be a smart choice to portray Selina Kyle, in case she lands the part. She is just 27, and that’s how old Robbie is, thus, they could be a pair that can continue for several years in case Gotham City Sirens went the franchise way. The fact that she is not yet a biggie also could mean that Catwoman could be the defining break that will be a part of her future persona.
All things said we don’t even know if Gotham City Sirens has reached the casting stage or not. The only thing we heard about the movie was Ayer being associated with the project, and it is under development. There is no update about the script or expected filming and also whether this film has any priority on the studio’s slate. These are questions which need to be answered. Now Suicide Squad 2 is the film that’s moving towards filming first. Therefore, Gotham City Sirens may have to wait for a good bit of time before releasing and delaying Gonzalez’s big screen debut as Catwoman if that happens at all.
Gotham City Sirens doesn’t have any release schedule or confirmed cast as on date.
