We all know about the convoluted X-Men timeline, but can we imagine a reality where Hugh Jackman did not bring out his claws and go, berserk? It was Hemlock Grove star, Dougray Scott who was initially supposed to wear the PVC for Bryan Singer’s entry into the world of X-Men. With Jackman grabbing this role from Scott, Wolverine then went on and became the best-cast roles.
Claws For Thought
While speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Hugh Jackman had revealed that it was not a case of “Hey bub, what’re you looking at?” and he was apologetic for what had happened:
“I said to him, ‘Man, I am sorry.’ And he said, ‘It’s just business, but you have just gotten one of the greatest roles out there so go crush it.’ I just remember being so impressed by that.”
For people who do not know, Russell Crowe was Singer’s first choice for the clawed character. This role went to Scott till principal photography ran long on Mission: Impossible 2 and he was then forced to drop out. As the 3rd choice, Jackman got this role.
With James Mangold’s Logan was getting some Oscar buzz, you cannot blame Jackman for feeling guilty for taking this part, but as Scott had said, it is business. Scott’s roles since the days include Desperate Housewives, Taken 3, and Fear the Walking Dead.
While Scott is too old to put on the yellow and black lycra Hollywood is looking at who can replace Jackman. With talks of a Laura Kinney spin-off, it may be claws to the wall before we know it.
