After her important role in Captain America: The First Avenger, Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) starred in her ABC solo show for two seasons and kept playing cameos in MCU films such as Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Ant-Man before she had a natural death during Captain America: Civil War.
Atwell attended the ACE Comic-Con over the weekend and talked about her experience as Peggy Carter.
“I’d be curious to know what the fans for her [Peggy Carter]. Some people have said they want to see her founding S.H.I.E.L.D,” Atwell said in response to a question about what she feels Agent Carter would have done after the end of the show. “You have that aspect of it, she’s able to let go in some ways — of Cap — and move on to Sousa.”
Carter debuted in a live-action movie co-starring with Chris Evans in the original Captain America film. She then went on to get a one-shot when ABC chose to introduce the character on TV as a series.
Agent Carter had a run of 18 episodes stretched over two seasons before it was canceled by ABC on May 12, 2016. Even after the cancellation, a lot of fans kept demanding the show’s return, and Atwell also has a few ideas about what a proposed third season might have in store.
“She’s a great cause, and she takes action, so there’s so many things going on socially from the 50s to when she passes, that I think she’d have loved to be a part of,” Atwell said. “There are so many things so could have been a part of, and probably did do. It could probably fill another season, I’m sure. I hope.”
So far, Atwell has featured in four Marvel Cinematic Universe films beside the Agent Carter and other Marvel theme animations like Avengers: Secret Wars (2017). She will next be seen as Evelyn Robin – the on-screen wife of the titular character in Christopher Robin, a live-action version of Winnie-the-Pooh which will release on August 3rd.
