The upcoming Star Wars film is in the midst of their reshoots. Directed by Ron Howard, Phil Lord and Chris Miller are surely not the only people who will not be around for the anticipated Han Solo spin-off’s final cut.
According to the report on Deadline, Michael K. Williams, has his character cut because of Howard’s attempt to mould the previously shot footage from the directors who were fired and bring in fresh material into a functional film. Williams is most popularly known for his role as Omar Little from HBO’s crime drama. The Wire.
“I felt great about what I created with the directors that I worked with,” Williams said. “It is what it is…When Ron Howard got hired to finish out the film, there were some reshoot issues that needed to be done in regards to my character, in order for it to match the new direction which the producers wanted Ron to carry the film in, and that would have required me on a plane a month ago to London, to Pinewood, to do reshoots.
But I’m here, on location in Africa, It’s scheduling. I’m not going to be back on the market until the end of November after [his Sundance television series] Hap and Leonard, and for them to wait that long for me, that would have pushed back the release date, which I believe is in May 2018. They wanted me now; I couldn’t go. So they had to clip-clip-clip.”
Going by a script by Lawrence and Jon Kasdan, the Han Solo spin-off movie is starring Alden Ehrenreich (Han Solo), Donald Glover (Lando Calrissian) and Joonas Suotamo (Chewbacca). These are in addition to Thandie Newton, Emilia Clarke, Woody Harrelson and Phoebe Waller-Bridge. The movie is scheduled to hit the big screens on May 25, 2018.
