G.I. Joe is on its journey back to the big screen! Paramount announced today that a decision has been taken to go ahead with the third film in the G.I. Joe franchise and the film has been scheduled to release in March 2020.
It is not as if G.I. Joe movies have been blockbusters as both the earlier films (Rise of Cobra and Retaliation) couldn’t get past the $400 million ceiling, even when each of them had budgets to the tune of $200 million and starred actors with a global fan following such as Channing Tatum, Dwayne Johnson, and Bruce Willis. Most of the fans state that the biggest flaw is a lack of balance between the comic book imagination and the military warfare that serve as the core ingredients of G.I. Joe, however, that is one aspect where improvement can be seen if the director is the right one.
The last time we saw Joes in the cinema, they had nearly been extinct in a Cobra led Earth assault wherein Duke (Channing Tatum), and various other Joes were killed. The survivors (headed by Roadblock aka The Rock), prevented Zartan from the impersonation of the president and taking over the control of WMDs, and once again establishing the goodwill and stature of G.I. Joe in the world. However, Cobra Commander and Storm Shadow are still out in the shadows with Roadblock, and Snake Eyes determined to exact revenge through missions which necessitate a follow-up chapter.
G.I. Joe 3 is scheduled to release in theaters on March 27, 2020. We will share further details with you as soon as more information comes out about the movie!
