There are just a few words out there that could enrage Dragon Ball fans, but “live-action adaptation” is at the top. The phrase can remind otakus of the travesty that was Dragonball Evolution a few years back, but Dragon Ball’s biggest stars say that he would like the franchise to get yet another live-action.

During an interview with ComicBook.com, Sean Schemmel had opened up about the desire for some more live-action Dragon Ball movies. The Goku voice actor had spoken about Hollywood’s ability to translate comic book storylines to the silver screen and had said that Akira Toriyama’s story may now be done right.

“I’ve been thrilled with how we can finally make a superhero look, which would bring me to the next question of what I think about Dragonball Evolution,” the actor began.

“I’m hoping there’s a live-action version in the future someday,” Schemmel revealed. “I think it could be done. I wonder how they’re going to handle the hair, and I think the effects can be done. I think that’s not a problem anymore.”

Dragon Ball’s treatment in Hollywood went the way of many pre-Iron Man comic book adaptations. Marvel Studios is heralded for shifting how the entertainment industry had approached the comics industry, and Dragonball Evolution did not make the cut. The movie wrapped production before Iron Man’s effect could have rippled through the industry.

After learning a few lessons from Dragonball Evolution, Schemmel and some other fans hope Hollywood can do justice to a live-action Dragon Ball movie. Toriyama’s series is the world’s most famous, and the popularity has risen in the recent years due to new anime series and video games. If Toriyama wants to give Son Goku a shot a live-action glory, the artist could wind up with a movie franchise rivaling The Avengers and Batman.
