After Disney took over Star Wars franchise, we got two massively successful Star Wars films, Episode 7 and Rogue One. Looking at the success of these movies, one can easily assume that the future SW movies are going to dominate the domestic box-office.
Star Wars franchise is a cultural phenomenon in the Unites States, and with every new installment its international popularity is increasing at a rapid pace as you can easily find Indians or even Koreans boasting their new T-Shirts on social media that says “Han Shot First.”
Right now, the Star Wars franchise is in a position where they can launch their release schedule years in advance, and the other movie studio will automatically select a date far away from SW movies.
However, Disney still has to fear from one competitor. And that competitor is Disney itself! Yes, you read it right! There so many good Disney movies lined up for next 3 years that they are stepping on each other’s foot.
Star Wars movies usually get the best possible dates, and that’s the Christmas holidays in December, but Episode 9 is going to release on May 24th, 2019. Disney wants to release Frozen 2 in the December 2019, as they know kids would pull their parents to the theaters for the Frozen sequel, Juxtaposing SW and Frozen will only mean loss.
Because of the tussle between Episode 9 and Frozen 2, Indiana Jones 5 had to be pushed back for one more year, that’s 10th July 2020. They had to take this tough decision because the whole 2019 is packed with massive Disney Blockbuster sequels like Toy Story 4, Avengers: Infinity War, Lion King remake etcetera. Just imagine by that time Harrison Ford would be very close to hitting his 80’s.
