The world has recently lost its pop culture icon with the death of David Cassidy.

While the 1970s teen idol may be known for his role in The Partridge Family, he had a big connection to DC Comics. Cassidy had played the role on The Flash TV series, as Sam Scudder/Mirror Master.

Cassidy’s Mirror Master had appeared in ‘Done With Mirrors,’ which had aired in April of 1991. Mirror Master was a mirror manipulating criminal, who stole an advanced battery from S.T.A.R. Labs. This battery is stolen by Stacia Masters, who then seeks refuge with Barry Allen/The Flash (John Wesley Shipp).

Scudder kidnaps Barry, who realizes that Scudder is under Stacia’s control. Barry reprimands the criminals and fights the projections of Scudder and then returns the battery to S.T.A.R. Labs.

David Cassidy’s role was very well received by fans, and it was one of his family’s connections to the DC Comics’ world. Jack Cassidy, David’s father, had played Max Mencken in 1966’s Broadway musical, It’s a Bird… It’s a Plane… It’s Superman. The role was reprised by David’s brother, Patrick Cassidy, in 2010’s Dallas revival of this musical.

David’s daughter, Katie is known by many DC Comics fans. Katie Cassidy is known for playing Laurel Lance/Black Canary on The CW’s Arrow. And she now portrays Black Siren on Arrow and The Flash.

Cassidy had passed away at the age of 67 after he was rushed to a Florida hospital.

“On behalf of the entire Cassidy family, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, our uncle, and our dear brother, David Cassidy,” his family told People. “David died surrounded by those he loved, with joy in his heart and free from the pain that had gripped him for so long. Thank you for the abundance and support you have shown him these many years.”
