The first impressions from the audience and reviews of the new Ghostbusters were magnificent. We thought that the film is going to be a grand success, but soon the papers and Internet news portal started calling it flop and a disaster. The movie is considered as a flop, not because it didn’t make money, it made a ton of money internationally. It is just that the cost of making the movie and marketing was way too high.

This film endured immense criticism from the Male fans, who called the movie sexist for changing the male protagonists to an all female lead cast. The fans of original movies were so upset that they started a petition to get the reboot canceled.

During an interview at Britain’s Sunday Brunch Dan Aykroyd (Writer & Actor of the 80’s Ghostbusters film) was asked, why did the Ghostbusters movie fail financially? Dan began with appreciating the female leads but then went on to express his disappointment gruffly about Paul Feig’s way of handling the film.

Here’s what Dan said in the interview:-

“[Ghostbusters] made a lot of money around the world but just cost too much, making it economically not feasible to do another one. So that’s too bad. The director, he spent too much on it. He didn’t shoot scenes we suggested to him and several scenes that were going to be needed, and he said, ‘Nah, we don’t need them.’ Then we tested the movie, and they needed them, and he had to go back. About $30 to $40-million in reshoots. So he will not be back on the Sony lot anytime soon.”

The general public never got to know, if there were reshoots before this interview. But it looks like the studio would have asked to improve the action sequences, sharpen the dialogues and increase the references to the old movie in the reshoots.

Dan’s comments got removed in the re-airing of the show. Paul Feig has not released any clarifications or comments on this. Sony has already confirmed that the Ghostbusters reboot is not going to get a sequel, but they are working on a new “Reboot” of Ghostbusters with all male actors squad and an animated cartoon.
