Carrie Fisher’s dog, Gary Fisher has been turned into an alien for Star Wars: The Last Jedi and though this alien is not as cute as Gary, it is no mistaking that it is his likeness and director, Rian Johnson has confirmed this. Gary went with Carrie Fisher everywhere and was on the set of The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, and it seems natural that he will make a cameo in one of the movies.
A hardcore Star Wars fan had noticed a pretty strange pet in one of the Canto Bight scenes that had been featured in Empire magazine. This picture features Rose Tico and Finn, but as the fan had noticed, there is a space dog that looks like Gary, Carrie Fisher’s French bulldog. Clair Henry noticed this and took to Twitter and asked Rian Johnson if it was a tribute to Gary. Johnson had appeared to be shocked, and then he clarified that it was supposed to be Gary. The space dog has the same eyes and color, but it would have been cooler if they had his tongue hanging out like Gary’s.
Gary, the space dog, is only one of the many Easter Eggs that are in The Last Jedi and there are much more included in the movie. Rian Johnson had revealed that the original cut of the movie was over 3 hours, but then clarified that most movies start out being long and then get edited. The Last Jedi is set to be the longest Star Wars movie ever with a run time of 2 hours and 32 minutes.
Carrie. Fisher had adopted Gary as a service dog to help deal with her bipolar disorder. Fisher had once revealed that “Gary is mental also,” while going on to say that Gary was “like her heart.” The dog was devoted to Fisher and calmed her down. He became anxious when she was away. But it seems like the dog has gotten comfortable with his familiar new owner. Gary has been living with Carrie Fisher’s former assistant, Corby McCoin, after Fisher passed away. McCoin had posted an image of Gary watching Fisher in a trailer for The Last Jedi on TV.
While the release of The Last Jedi is around the corner, there is a lot of information that we do not know regarding Carrie Fisher’s role. It has been hinted that she will meet Luke Skywalker and Rey, but nothing has been confirmed. The female cast of the upcoming movie paid tribute to Carrie Fisher.
