The Titans live-action TV series has got its Beast Boy, with Warner Bros. Television announcing the cast of Ryan Potter as Garfield “Gar” Logan.
Here is the official Beast Boy description, which looks to be close to this character’s comic book roots:
“Sakutia, while on an African expedition with his geneticist parents. Treated with an experimental drug, Gar survived but not without developing some bizarre side effects. Along with skin and hair turning permanently green, the wisecracking, fun-loving Beast Boy is able to reshape himself into any animal of any size he can imagine.”
Potter, 22, is known as the voice of Hiro Hamada in the 2014 Disney animated hit, Big Hero 6, based on Marvel Comics team. He is set to return to this character in Disney XD’s animated Big Hero 6: The Series. In live-action, his prominent role is the main character of Nickelodeon’s Supah Ninjas from 2011 to 2013.
Potter cast as a DC Comics superhero is what the actor has hoped for in 2016, he posted a video of himself performing martial arts under the caption, “Tim Drake Concept Fight,” and requested Ben Affleck to consider him for this role, DC’s third Robin. In 2015, he had expressed interest for the role of Spider-Man via Twitter, a move that had seen the half-Japanese actor gain support from The Nerds of Color.
Beast Boy was created in Arnold Drake and Bob Brown and introduced in 1965’s Doom Patrol #99, and became a pivotal role of Wolfman and George Pérez run on Teen Titans.
Titans will debut in 2018 on DC’s as-yet digital service, from Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns, Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter. Here is the logline: “In this action-packed series, Dick Grayson emerges from the shadows to become the leader of a fearless band of new heroes, including Starfire, Raven and many others. Titans is a dramatic, live-action adventure series that will explore and celebrate one of the most popular comic book teams ever.”
Potter joins a cast including Brenton Thwaites (Dick Grayson), Anna Diop (Starfire), Teagan Croft (Raven), Alan Ritchson (Hawk), Minka Kelly (Dove) and Lindsey Gort (Amy Rohrbach), Dick Grayson’s police detective partner.
