Her best known role to date has been as Agent Jennifer “JJ” Jareau on the CBS crime drama Criminal Minds (2005-2020). Some of her other notable features have been The Virgin Suicides (1999), Higher Ground (2000), Ripper (2001), Out Cold (2001), and Final Destination 2 (2003).

She was raised in nearby Whitby where she got enrolled in Anderson Collegiate Vocational Institute. She grew up in a big family with three siblings. A big tragedy struck her in childhood when she was declared legally blind in the second grade because of severe astigmatism.

In 2007 she underwent surgery to cure the impairment. She began dancing from a very young age and became trained in jazz, tap and ballet. At the age of 16 she decided to try acting, and began to audition for various parts.

Her first appearance on the screen was in a McDonald’s commercial in 1997. Her big screen debut happened with 1999’s The Virgin Suicides where she played one of five suicidal Lisbon sisters.

Her biggest role to date has undoubtedly been Agent Jennifer “JJ” Jareau on the CBS crime drama Criminal Minds. She has appeared in all fifteen seasons recurring in the sixth. She has been married to Nathan Andersen since 2001 and has two children with him.
