As a student of performing Art in New York, she joined a few theatre groups. She initiated her acting career with Off-Broadway plays and musical theatres.

After that, she moved to South Korea, where her acting career started flourishing. In 1997, Yunjin was cast in a short-lived Korean drama, Splendid Holiday. Her first significant role was in the film Shiri (1999). For portraying Lee Bang-Hee’s character in Shiri, she won the Grand Bell Award and Korean Association of Film Critics Award.
