After a lot of anticipation, DC’s Wonder Woman has found her long-lost twin brother, Jason (son of Zeus and Queen Hippolyta) and Diana’s younger twin brother. The twist has been a long time coming with comic legend and head of DC Films, Geoff Johns planting seeds ahead of DC’s successful Rebirth relaunch. The that Diana was not the only child born on the island of Themyscira, the only daughter that Hippolyta had has ruffled more than a few feathers.
The story started with the truth of Diana’s birth coming to light before she was sidetracked. But the time has come for her to deal with her brother. This will be a story larger than anyone can guess when Jason’s existence was revealed, now that a vicious killer is hunting downchildren of Zeus and has set sights on the only son of the Amazons.
The killer is a teenage version of Darkseid.
WONDER WOMAN’S SECRET TWIN BROTHER
The revelation that Diana was not the only child has come in the closing moments of the “Darkseid War” storyline, when she had a chance to hear the words of a woman who had been a loyal assassin of Queen Hippolyta. Not only had the assassin, Myrina, given birth to her daughter on the same night Diana was born, she had witnessed it firsthand. Witnessed the birth of Diana and the twin brother who followed. She heard that this brother had been named Jason before fleeing the island.
Even without knowing the answers to the questions, Diana focused her attention on other crises. Strangely enough, it is not Jason or another Amazon who gives Diana her first lead to her brother. It is Hercules, having lived out his life in secrecy and isolation. Hercules is killed, but leaves his belongings and will to Diana. Hercules knew that the boy had big things in his future. Big, but not necessarily good.
BROTHER & SISTER ARE REUNITED
In the latest Wonder Woman #33, the story is yet to progress beyond Diana’s discovery of Jason. The bad news is that Darkseid knows Jason’s whereabouts. A worse news is that Darkseid’s daughter, Grail, is working with the father she tried to kill in “Darkseid War.” It was a part of a prophecy Grail tried to bring to fruition.
The prophecy spoke of the first man to set foot on Themyscira being ‘The Chosen One.’ What the man may be “Chosen” for was not revealed, but the plot failed when Steve Trevor was revealed to be the second man on Themyscira, Jason being the first. Grail may claim to be working in partnership with her father, but the ‘Chosen One’ being dropped into her lap will be too tempting.
How will Jason respond to learning that he is the son of Zeus and Hippolyta? Does he know? What secret may he be complete or resist?
