Warning: This article has spoilers for Marvel Legacy #1.
Wolverine’s return was only a matter of time and that time has arrived. Marvel’s Legacy #1 has ushered in a new phase of the comic book universe, and it will see the start of the continuity with the long due comeback of Wolverine and not some copy or alternate universe Logan or his weird doppelganger. We saw how Logan made the supreme sacrifice for the universal good, however, now it is time for him to return to the Marvel universe again.
In fact, his comeback was disclosed by Marvel before the release of the new comics, as they wanted all of his fans to get excited about his comeback. In fact, the announcement might have been some kind of a spoiler, but, then Wolverine coming back is a huge deal. The issue is in the stores now and if you are one of those who are keen to see the plot unravel and find out about the brand new superpower that Wolverine has at his disposal, then read further.
MYSTERY MAN SAVES THE DAY IN LEGACY #1
The Legacy #1 is a testimony to the humongous amount of rewriting and creating the Marvel canon was put into this concept with new storylines being given to a lot of lead as well as supporting characters. For example, Loki is usually a villain, but, it is now discovered that he doesn’t have any good intentions. He brings the Frost Giant sidekicks to a S.H.I.E.L.D. storage so that he could steal a secret package before the soldiers shift it elsewhere. That’s when this brother of Thor confides with the readers that he is just going through the drill whereas he is making an effort to “save the world.”
The mention of S.H.I.E.L.D. soldiers being suspicious about being followed by a beer truck is immediately struck down. However, as soon as the Frost Giants flatten the opposition (which included an unexpected bout with the new Avengers) and break out, they hardly took a couple of steps before being smashed by the same beer truck. While the Frost Giants guarantee a swift death to most of the people, that truck driver wasn’t even shaking.
That sets rolling the plot for the much-awaited comeback of the iconic Marvel “SNIKT.”
REMEMBER THAT ADAMANTIUM COCOON?
The fans might wonder, ‘How is that possible? Wolverine was encrusted in a toughened Adamantium shell and gone for good, right?’ The truth is that we witnessed the iconic character lose his power to heal towards the conclusion of 2014 comic The Death of Wolverine and he ended up submerging himself in the hot liquid adamantium. But, then it didn’t show him die. Yes, it seemed so because Wolverine was down onto his knees and once the metal formed a crust around his body and he knew that his DNA would never serve any evil purposes again, the death from suffocation was inevitable, even for Wolverine.
However, in Legacy #1 we see a young Jean Grey travel to a far-off cabin in Canada with a lot of optimism. Considering the incidents that took place in Marvel Universe recently – faith being rewarded and inexplicably the seemingly impossible things coming to take place – Jean appears to be aware of the fact that she is unlikely to find the adamantium cocooned hero at the place where he was abandoned. She might not see him there, but, she is delighted when she found the adamantium cocoon split open from the middle and the capsuled person missing.
Therefore, undoubtedly, it is the real Wolverine who is back into the action.
WOLVERINE IS BACK – AND HE’S GOT AN INFINITY STONE
However, this dramatic comeback has an even bigger mystery which deserves an explanation about how and when did Logan wake up from what was supposed to be an eternal slumber and what made him break out of that confinement. Did he die or was he comatose? Did things change when Captain America had come back to recreate Secret Empire, and that brought this hero back to life? These are the questions which all the readers will be grappling with. It might be true that Wolverine was trying to get the package that Loki and his Frost Giants wanted for themselves.
What’s even weirder is that Wolverine is not even surprised when he finds the Mind Stone (an Infinity Stone) in that box and that indicates that he was aware of what he was chasing. Mental control is not a Wolverine specialty, therefore, it is left for the readers to decipher as what his intention is behind wanting the Stone. His backstory and the traumatic past makes it really interesting as to what Wolverine might discover once he has the means to recover all his lost memories and recollections of past incidents.
This is the question which we are left grappling with in Legacy #1, a story which belongs to Wolverine. Apart from this, there are a lot more strange incidents, comeback characters, and unpredictable twists that this issue will bring to you. Grab a copy and find out yourself.
