MCU is all set to feature over 65 characters in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4. Marvel Studios has put together a stunning cast under one tentpole to create an unprecedented comic-book event as part of their phase 3. The Avengers: Infinity War movies are this century’s most eagerly anticipated superhero films. Needless to say that the films will portray the deadliest enemy ever faced by the Avengers in the form of the Mad Titan Thanos.
Initial trailers have been released, and the fans have already got their first glimpses of the arrival of Thanos (Josh Brolin) on the blue planet. He has arrived here to get hold of all the Infinity Stones, put them together to create an insanely powerful Infinity Gauntlet. The Infinity Stones are incredibly powerful, and each stone individually is quite potent. However, it is as a collection that they are capable of reshaping reality and destroying worlds.
The biggest previous appearance of Thanos was in Guardians of the Galaxy where we saw him talk to Ronan, the villain of that film. The scene showed him wear a blue and golden armor similar to his comic book version and a golden helmet. However, in the trailer, the armor and helmet are missing. Rather, he is shown to be indulging in a physical fight and wearing a sleeveless breastplate.
During last year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Joe Russo (co-director of Avengers: Infinity War) revealed why Thanos is without his armor. He stated.
“[Thanos] has a more casual approach in this film, and it’s very philosophical for him,” Russo explained. “It’s part of his character definition. It’s a spiritual journey for him to collect the Stones and one with which he doesn’t need armor. Once he starts acquiring the Stones, he doesn’t need armor in the same way he did when he was a warlord. It’s a very symbolic costume.”
So far, other than the brief cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy, Thanos has been seen in post-credit scenes of the MCU film. Previously there were villains like Ronan and Loki who worked for him, but, in Avengers: Age of Ultron post-credit scene, we saw how he was upset and decided to take things into his own hands.
Josh Brolin had earlier said during an interview that he might not get all the Infinity Stones in Avengers: Infinity War. This led to a speculation whether Thanos’ mission to collect the stones will be depicted in two movies. To address this concern, he said:
“I haven’t done the second movie, so I don’t know. I literally don’t know what the second script is. I don’t know if they’ve finished the second script, and that’s the truth. I think they’re in the midst of structuring and restructuring.”
He also said that Thanos would employ Psychological manipulations as well as raw force.
Marvel Studios has been creating the build-up about Thanos over several movies. Therefore, expectations are sky high, and some people expect the film to not only shatter the records of highest earning superhero movie ever, rather across all genres. The fact that things are going in the right direction is only more heartening to note.
Thanos and the Black Order will land in theaters on May 3, 2018. Have fun!
