DC Comics’ Dan DiDio and Jim Lee have now confirmed that the upcoming Doomsday Clock event is a sequel to Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ 1986 comic book series, Watchmen. The latter had helped in shaping the comic book medium over these years and is dissected to this day. Although the series was published by DC Comics, it remains separate from the DCU and from comic icons such as Batman and Superman.

Last year, DC had launched Rebirth, its major reset, though not a reboot, since The New 52 reboot in 2011. Rebirth revealed that Watchmen would be joining the DCU and that is something that fans want to see since that first issue released.

During DC’s Meet The Publishers at New York Comic Con 2017, Dan DiDio and Jim had Lee confirmed that Doomsday Clock by Geoff Johns, Gary Frank, and Brad Anderson would be the story that had left off with Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ Watchmen.

People have known that Watchmen characters like Doctor Manhattan will join the fold, but it was not confirmed when Rebirth would take place.

DiDio and Lee have also confirmed that the event will be told through 12, self-contained issues. Instead of crossing-over the series, the publisher chose to incorporate major DCU players like Superman, with Batman and Flash with other Justice League members joining Big Blue into a new comic book series. Rob Keyes spoke with Geoff Johns at a private Doomsday Clock event for more details that will be revealed tomorrow evening.

Doomsday Clock has come over a year after Doctor Manhattan and Watchmen were teased and also considering that this may be one of DC Comics’ biggest comics ever comic book readers will get some answers as to what happened in these years.
