The Spider-Man: Homecoming spinoff Venom has amassed a great cast with Marvel fans excited to see Mad Max: Fury Road star Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock/Venom.
In a Yahoo UK interview with Andy Serkis, we have confirmation that Venom will be developed by the motion-capture performance.
Serkis was not talking about anything on Venom in the interview; he was addressing the idea if his famous motion-capture performances like Gollum or Caesar deserved their awards. That is when he let it slip and said, “Tom Hardy is playing a new character using performance capture.”
With Hardy jumping to production on Venom it is clear that this is the role Serkis is referencing.
It should not be surprising that Venom filmmakers are going on this route. The other live-action version of this character was a CGI creation for Spider-Man 3, a motion-capture performance from Hardy will make this character more convincing.
Venom has added Michelle Williams and Jenny Slate, with Scott Haze, Reid Scott and Rogue One star, Riz Ahmed who has been rumored to play Carnage.
