Time is close to getting a good look at Dwayne Johnson’s Rampage. The film is scheduled to release on April 20, 2018, and is based on ‘Rampage’ arcade game from 1986. It promises to be the first good quality video game film we have ever seen. It might not be that great, but, surely it is better to watch a fun monster movie than the other video game movies. We are ready for it. Warner Bros. has recently shared a couple of photos from the film, before its trailer debuts on Thursday. Dwayne Johnson says that the film is going to be a huge thrill ride for the viewers.
“You have to ratchet up the dial ten times with Rampage. These monsters are relentless, and audiences are going to find that ride very exhilarating. As an actor in the movie, it’s fun and daunting. It’s 12- to 14-hour days of survival, and it’s not quite survival either.”
Dwayne Johnson plays the character of Davis Okoye in Rampage. He is a man who shares a great friendship with a gigantic gorilla named George. Johnson says that his character believes in the philosophy of “When animals like you, they lick you. When they don’t like you, they eat you. That’s his philosophy, which has gotten him far in life.”
George will grow up to become a huge, extremely dangerous size due to the failure of some genetic experiments in the film. Then there is a 30-foot wolf called Ralph and Lizzie who is a crocodile as large as a football field. Johnson admitted that he relishes playing a character faced with survival challenges.
“Even when I was a kid when you watch these movies everyone is looking up at something and terrified. As a character, I loved that position where I’m looking up, and there’s nothing you can do but try to survive these three gigantic mutated monsters.”
The two photos don’t show any of the three monsters that feature in Rampage. However, we are bound to see a lot of that in the trailer that releases on Thursday. The images do show Dwayne Johnson in the midst of a ruined town with his co-star Naomie Harris (Skyfall) who portrays a genetic scientist Dr. Kate Caldwell in Rampage. The Rock undertook research coordinating with people from Diane Fossey Gorilla Fund and experts from Atlanta Zoo to prepare for his role. He claims to have benefitted from it.
“That was really eye-opening for me in terms of how dangerously close we are to having these beautiful animals extinct. There is a much greater level of empathy and care and consideration that we have to have. I was an animal lover before, but after this, my love has become boundless.”
Rampage is directed by Brad Peyton (San Andreas). Warner Bros. is coming out with the trailer on Thursday to link it with the theatrical release of Justice League, and it is a great move. Have a look at these Rampage photos courtesy USA Todayand watch out for the trailer on Thursday.
