Black Panther released a couple of weeks back and has gone on to smash a lot of records. It has definitely turned out to be the best Superhero origin story overtaking Iron-Man too. Black Panther is a never seen before type of film. It is perfect. The film has all the elements such as emotion, heart, humor, drama, action and a gripping story.
Ryan Coogler has earlier directed Michael B. Jordan and Stallone in Creed, and he was roped in by Marvel Studios to be the first black director helming a mainstream MCU superhero film. He matched the immense hype and hopes and has delivered a superb film. The plot didn’t deal with the origin story of Black Panther as he had already been cast in MCU in Captain America: Civil War, where he had accompanied his father T’Chaka to sign on the United Nations Sokovia accords compelling superheroes to mandatorily register to control them. However, his father perished in a huge bomb blast orchestrated by Winter Soldier under the influence of Baron Zemo who had brainwashed him to follow his commands. The film depicts events beyond the Civil War. This is what Coogler said:
“What’s great is that people have already met Chadwick Boseman in Civil War, so now we get to jump in feet first without having to tell a more traditional origin story. We meet him as his world is changing. Black Panther takes place right after the events of Civil War, so T’Challa’s father has just been killed, he has returned home to Wakanda, and T’Challa has to navigate potentially becoming the new ruler of this nation. He never intended to become the king for years because he figured his dad would be around for a long time. T’Chaka’s death is, in a lot of ways, the catalyst for everything that’s happening in Black Panther.”
He further added:
“In this movie, a lot like politics, it’s a little tricky to define who’s a good guy. The film very much plays with those concepts, looking at conflicts and different motivations, and who’s with who. What makes him different from other superheroes first and foremost is he doesn’t see himself as a superhero. He sees himself as a politician. That’s the first thing on his mind when he wakes up in the morning: ‘How am I going to fulfill my duties as king of this place?’”
Throughout the film, fans are bound to stay smiling, and in the sequence where things got serious, you could almost sense it. Everything that Ryan Coogler wanted to convey was conveyed by the film. It would be unfair to ask for a better film. The wait for a Black Panther film was absolutely worth it. It revealed a lot of unexpected twists throughout the runtime and audiences loved it as much.
There was a lot that the film had to display, and it did everything in the best possible manner. Yet, it didn’t clarify a few things here and there as well as 2-3 mega mysteries that we all expected this film to solve. The one thing that most people were looking forward to was the location of the soul stone.
Thanos is going to land in Avengers: Infinity War in little over two months and we know that he will go all out after the Infinity Stones to create his Gauntlet, and to destroy the whole universe as he is the supreme Mad Titan. So far, we have seen only 5 of the Infinity Stones displayed in the MCU, and people had earlier expected to see the 6th Stone to appear in Thor: Ragnarok.
A lot of people believed that Heimdall might be in possession of the Soul Stone since he is capable of seeing the souls of the whole Universe. Theories were based around Odin and Hela as well because they could also have possessed the last Infinity Stone. However, none of the theories worked and Thor: Ragnarok didn’t even try to show the Stone.
After that, the expectation was that Black Panther would most certainly be the film that will reveal the Soul Gem in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, as things turned out, even Black Panther skipped the Stone just like Thor: Ragnarok did. It is speculated that Wakanda is the country so technologically advanced that it had remained hidden despite being in plain sight from the rest of the world, therefore, there has to be a compelling reason as to why the country had been in hiding till now.
People felt that the country could have been hiding as they protected something incredibly powerful that was capable of reshaping the whole world, or destroy the world too. Whatever Wakanda has been hiding might be something of true power, and it seems that the Wakandan people were wary of it falling into evil hands. This ultimate powerful thing is supposedly the Soul Stone.
It was a surprise, therefore, to see that Wakanda was guarding huge Vibranium reserves instead of Infinity Stone. As is known Vibranium is an Alien Metal which landed on our planet through a meteorite several million years ago and is the strongest metal known, which has helped the people of Wakanda build a nation and an arsenal of high tech gadgets and weapons. That’s what the people of Wakanda have been concealing from the rest of the world to ensure it doesn’t fall into the wrong hands and not the Soul Stone.
Therefore, it is now apparent that Soul Stone’s emergence will be a key plot point in Avengers: Infinity War, and that’s why it has been built up with great secrecy till the release of the movie. Our guess is that the Stone might still be possessed by Heimdall as he is not dead yet and he would be killed by Thanos so that he could capture the stone during the events of Avengers: Infinity War. The only option for us is to wait and find out as we might eventually be faced with a totally unexpected revelation. However, before that happens, do watch Black Panther if you haven’t already done that. Below is the movie’s official synopsis:
“After the death of his father, T’Challa returns home to the African nation of Wakanda to take his rightful place as king. When a powerful enemy suddenly reappears, T’Challa’s mettle as king — and as Black Panther — gets tested when he’s drawn into a conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Faced with treachery and danger, the young king must rally his allies and release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people”.
Avengers: Infinity War is scheduled to release on May 4, 2018. Black Panther will be a part of that film along with more than 35 other superheroes who will jointly take on the Mad Titan Thanos and his Black Order. Marvel Studios has come out with three different official synopsis versions of Avengers: Infinity War in recent months. Check it out below:
“Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk and the rest of the Avengers unite to battle their most powerful enemy yet — the evil Thanos. On a mission to collect all six Infinity Stones, Thanos plans to use the artifacts to inflict his twisted will on reality. “As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain”.
“An unprecedented cinematic journey ten years in the making and spanning the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Infinity War” brings to the screen the ultimate, deadliest showdown of all time. The Avengers and their Super Hero allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe”.
