Fans of the DCEU are by now very acclimatized used to change, but the recent reports about the Joker standalone movie has blindsided the fans. Director, Matt Reeves has yet again continued this trend. The Batman helmer has hinted that his project was pitched as a standalone. The movie will differ from other solo films.
On Kim Masters’ podcast The Business, Reeves opened up on how The Batman will differ from The Dark Knight.
“The Dark Knight, which I think is an incredible movie, the thing that really resonates about that is The Joker … his story and that performance, and everything about the filmmaking that relates to that character – it’s his (Heath Ledger’s) movie,” Reeves explained.
“I think Christian Bale is great, but I think that that movie movie really resonated with everyone because of that character (The Joker), its portrayal, and the way that the movie presented his unsettling perspective and the way that crashed up against Batman,” the director continued. “I think I am interested in being even more inside of Batman.”
Heath Ledger’s take on the Joker has stunned people across the globe and the actor remains tightly knit to the DC icon. The Joker in Nolan’s franchise has turned him into a leading character.
And now, Reeves is set to turn all of his focus towards the Gotham hero himself.
There is very little known about The Batman movie. Fans are wondering if Ben Affleck will be part of the standalone. And reports about the Joker’s solo film suggest that a new actor will play the role of the villain while Jared Leto carries the Joker’s mantle within the DCEU.
The Batman may very well even tap a new actor to play the role of Bruce Wayne if the movie is fully outside of DCEU.
But fans are asking how Reeves’ movie will be knit into the pre-existing continuity. Yes, San Diego Comic-Con listed The Batman as part of the DCEU’s schedule. But now, things change really quickly in a DC Film.
